The Tasmania JackJumpers are pleased to announce a new Aboriginal Advisory Panel, made up of Tasmanian Aboriginal elders, who will work with the JackJumpers over the next twelve months. This panel will work with the Club on cultural awareness and respectful relations with the Tasmanian Aboriginal Community, including activities for NBL’s Indigenous Round.

The panel includes Auntie Lola Greeno, Uncle Rodney Dillon and Theresa Sainty. Bio's here.

The NBL’s Indigenous Round aims to acknowledge and celebrate Indigenous artists and culture across the league. The Tasmania JackJumpers will participate in this round, using it to highlight and acknowledge the Palawa people (Tasmanian Aboriginal people) of Lutruwita (Tasmania).

During NBL’s Indigenous Round, the Tasmania JackJumpers will wear a special jersey designed by a Tasmanian Aboriginal artist, recommended by the Aboriginal Advisory Panel. The jersey artist will be selected by the panel based on the following:

  1. the story of the design, as supplied by the artist,
  2. the quality of the drafted designs (supplied as paintings, drawings or photographic images), and
  3. the artist being a Tasmanian Aboriginal person.

Joint statement by the Tasmania JackJumpers and members of their Aboriginal Advisory Panel:

"We believe this new process is the best and fairest way to ensure that the NBL’s Indigenous Round jersey design is a true representation of our community's continued connection to Country and culture. Our goal is to foster respect, and cultural awareness throughout this process."

In addition to working with the selected jersey artist, the Tasmania JackJumpers are looking forward to working with the Advisory Panel on other ways Tasmanian Aboriginal people can be recognized and celebrated throughout the NBL’s Indigenous Round, and across the next twelve months.
