The Tasmania JackJumpers are one of the first NBL clubs to finalise their playing roster for the 2021/22 Hungry Jack’s NBL Season after securing Australian player Matt Kenyon, plus two Development Players.

6’5 shooting guard Kenyon joins the Tasmania JackJumpers on a one-year deal. Kenyon was recently selected in the FIBA Asia Cup qualification game against New Zealand, playing a key role in Australia’s 81–52 win.

Kenyon played 21 games for the Brisbane Bullets across two seasons, and was named QBL’s U23 Player of the Year in 2017, before suffering a dislocated knee which kept him sidelined for 12 months.

The 23 year old also spent time training with the Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers and Chicago Bulls in 2019 before being taken by Capital City Go-Go in the NBA G League Draft.

JackJumpers Head Coach Scott Roth said “Matt is another key piece of the JackJumpers puzzle that we’ve been looking for.

“He’s been hit by a few injuries but I feel with some continuity off the back of the Boomers camp and the NBL1 season, he can make a big impact at the JackJumpers and his size and style compliments the strong list we’ve brought together”.

Kenyon said “I’m really excited about getting down to Tasmania and being a part of the start of something really unique and special, building a strong culture and foundations of a new club. My body is feeling really good at the moment so I can’t wait to get into it”.

The Tasmania JackJumpers are also pleased to announce Jock Perry and Sean Macdonald as Development Players for the JackJumpers’ inaugural NBL season, completing the 15-man roster.

7’1 centre Perry has spent the last four years in the US College system with Saint Mary’s and UC Riverside, before returning to Australia to play with the Ballarat Miners in the NBL1 season alongside Matt Kenyon. Creative point guard Macdonald will join the JackJumpers inaugural squad following the NBL1 season with the Dandenong Rangers and brings experience from Under 17 & 19 World Championships, as well as a season training full-time with South East Melbourne Phoenix.

JackJumpers Head Coach Scott Roth said “I’m really pleased with the roster we’ve compiled. It’s incredible that we’ve got 15 players across the line in basically a month.

“It’s been quite the journey to build this roster but I’m really looking forward to getting some more players on the ground and on the court, and actually getting into some basketball.

“I’m really happy with the 15 players we have, it’s a diverse and exciting group that Tasmania’s going to love, and a group I believe can gel quickly and achieve success in our first year”.
