The Tasmania JackJumpers will be out to school the competition this NBL season, but the club is also aiming to impact local school students with a new education program, supported by Huon Aquaculture.

The JackJumpers are delighted to announce a two-year community partnership with Huon Aquaculture, one of the World’s leading salmon farming and production companies, founded and based here in Tasmania.

Huon Aquaculture will be the presenting partner of the JackJumpers in Schools Program delivering educational outcomes across Tasmania.

“We are delighted to partner with Huon Aquaculture to further increase our community program and reach more Tasmanians of all ages” CEO Christine Finnegan said.

“We feel this program can have a really positive impact in classrooms across Tasmania, spreading the club’s values and helping to promote healthy, active and mindful growth through their adolescent years”.

“Our school and community clinics teach basketball lessons but this program will help us further our reach off the court, to make sure kids are good people as well as talented athletes” Finnegan said.

Designed by Tasmanian teachers within the Australian Curriculum, the JackJumpers Schools Program has been carefully crafted to align with the Tasmanian education curriculum for Years 3/4 and 5/6, exploring themes of health and wellness, focusing on both mental and physical health and giving students the tools they need to become healthy and happy versions of themselves

The JackJumpers in Schools Program aims to engage students through carefully designed lesson plans using JackJumpers basketball, humour, and interactive games to support their learning.

The program gives young people the skills to learn healthy habits, by encouraging both mental and physical health and wellness.

Hannah Gray, Huon Aquaculture's General Manager Stakeholder & Government Relations, sees a natural synergy in this partnership, stating, “Huon and the JackJumpers share a common commitment, with community at the heart of our brands.”

“Huon has always been active in the communities in which we operate, and this partnership is a fantastic opportunity to having a lasting positive impact on the lives of young Tasmanians.

“Huon and the JackJumpers share a pioneering spirit and this new program will help inspire Tasmanian school kids to realise their potential, by building a foundation for healthy and happy lives.”

The initiative will be trialed as a pilot program at select schools in Term 4 to allow feedback from teachers and educators, before an anticipated full launch in Term 1, 2024.

Huon produce will also be showcased throughout the season in the Hobart Whisky Emerald Lounge during the pre-game functions and through additional tastings and product education on concourse and in the Hobart Whisky Emerald Lounge.
