The Illawarra Hawks reinforced their position at the top of the NBL ladder with a commanding 102-78 win over the Tasmania JackJumpers at MyState Bank Arena to open Champion Pride Round. A dominant first half set the tone, with co-captain Sam Froling leading the charge for the visitors, delivering 18 points and seven rebounds.

The Hawks came out firing, building an early lead with efficient shooting and relentless defensive pressure. By halftime, they were in control with a 52-34 advantage, capitalizing on their 52% shooting from the field and making the most of their opportunities at the free-throw line. Froling was instrumental in the first half with 16 points, while Tyler Harvey (15 points, five assists), Mason Peatling (12 points, six rebounds), and Todd Blanchfield (12 points, three triples) provided valuable contributions throughout the game.

Tasmania found their offensive rhythm in the second quarter, led by Milton Doyle, who put up 13 of his 17 points before the break. Jordon Crawford added 16 points and seven assists, while Clint Steindl chipped in with 13 points. The JackJumpers battled back to cut the deficit to 12 early in the third quarter, with Steindl providing a spark, but Illawarra responded every time to keep control of the contest.

The Hawks’ defensive intensity was a key factor, forcing 13 JackJumpers turnovers and converting them into 20 points. They also dominated on second-chance opportunities, pulling down six offensive rebounds for eight points. Tasmania showed resilience but struggled to match Illawarra’s efficiency, with the Hawks maintaining their lead throughout the second half and stretching it out to 24 by the final buzzer.

With this win, Illawarra improves to 18-9, staying clear at the top of the standings. The JackJumpers (12-15) now shift their focus to a crucial clash against Melbourne United on Saturday night, a matchup where they’ve historically performed well.
