The Tasmania JackJumpers are thrilled to announce that our very own Majok Deng has been selected to represent South Sudan in the 2024 Paris Olympics. This incredible achievement is a testament to Majok’s dedication, skill, and the spirit of the JackJumpers.

Majok Deng, a 31-year-old forward, has been an integral part of the high-flying South Sudan men’s national team. With nine FIBA Basketball World African Qualifiers games under his belt, Majok has become a regular and valuable addition to the Bright Stars. His journey with the national team began on July 22, 2022, during the World Cup African Qualifiers in Rwanda, and by August 26, 2023, Majok was making his FIBA Basketball World Cup debut against Puerto Rico.

Majok Deng joined the Tasmania JackJumpers for the 2023/24 NBL Season, signing a one-year deal after impressive stints with the Adelaide 36ers and Cairns Taipans, accumulating over 200 games in his NBL career. Standing at 205cm, Majok has brought immense talent and experience to our team, and we are proud to see him achieve this milestone. We are equally excited to announce that Majok will be playing with the JackJumpers again for the 2024/25 season, continuing to contribute his skills and leadership to our team.

“I look forward to playing in the Olympics,” Majok said. “We are in a really tough pool but I back my brothers 100 percent. We are going to do everything possible to make the country proud, no matter who we play."

"So happy for Majok on making his national team. All his hard work has paid off, which is a credit to him and his family. That makes three players from the JackJumpers becoming Olympians, and I could not be prouder. It’s a great moment for basketball in Tasmania and we look forward to watching our guys compete!" said Scott Roth.

"We are incredibly proud to see Majok Deng officially announced as part of the South Sudan Olympic team, joining Jack McVeigh and Will Magnay who are heading to Paris with the Australian Boomers. These achievements highlight the strength of our development program and the dedication of our coaching staff. It’s a testament to the hard work and commitment of everyone involved in the JackJumpers organization," added Christine Finnegan.

South Sudan has been drawn in Group C of the 2024 Olympics Men's Tournament alongside three-time Olympics defending champions US, Serbia, and the winner of the Olympic Qualifying Tournament to be held in Puerto Rico.
