Member Profile – Simon Hall
Simon Hall was the very first person to sign up his family with a Family Membership, the morning our memberships went on sale!
Tell us about your family and who the memberships are for?
Bought the family membership for myself, my wife Clare, our son Sebastian… and our dog Chief, who is a border collie! Actually, the day memberships went on sale, 1st October, was Sebastian’s second birthday!
So, you’re a keen basketball fan then?
Oh yeah, I started playing with Dodges Ferry when I was about 8 and played all through school up until I was about 20. Since then it has been a social thing. I coach the U/18 boys with Glenorchy Revellers, and have also been involved as a sponsor through my local business. I remember back in 95-96, the Devil’s last season, when Jonathan Roberts, one of our international imports, and Stiffy (David Stiff) came to my school and ran clinics. I remember we all looked forward to that, we got such a kick out of that.
What excites you about having a Tasmania team back in the national comp?
Well as others have said, the pathways will be great. Giving junior kids something to aspire to, and to get along to the new nest to enjoy the games. Over the last few years I’ve made a point of going to Melbourne and Sydney to watch NBL games a couple of times a year. I love sitting courtside, so if we can bring the same atmosphere and entertainment, that will be something we have not seen in Tassie probably ever. Add to that, if we can see some of our young Tassie talent on the bench or in development, I think that is really important.
Alright, sounds like you are a great supporter – so what do you think of the JackJumpers name?
Well… at first, I thought… “really?!” (laughs) but as soon as I saw the branding, and the story of the JackJumpers I was sold! It fits where we are here. I think it is absolutely great!
I live on a 3-acre block and we have jack jumpers on our property. Clare had spent some time cleaning it up, getting rid of their nests… so when our merch showed up she was like “just when I thought we’d got rid of the jack jumpers these two turned up!”
