Majok Deng joined the Tasmania JackJumpers after stints with the Cairns Taipans and Adelaide 36ers in an NBL Career spanning over 200 games. Majok had impressed in his off season with the Logan Thunder where he was averaging 26.9 points, and 11 rebounds per game.
Majok Deng was a career 52% shooter from the field and provides outside shooting in the power forward position. A major focus of the roster build for this year was to allow for more shooters on the floor across a range of positions. Majok also provides length on the defensive end being 6ft 9in and a longer wingspan he can provide another block threat on opposition drives.

Majok’s high score for the regular season was 17 points which he got in 2 games early in the season his first was in Game 6 against Sydney in an away win at Kudos bank Arena then he got 17 points again in another away win against the Brisbane Bullets this time in a loss at Nissan Arena.
Majok Deng Notable Regular Season Games
Majok Deng bounced back against Sydney after an ending to the game the week before that played heavy on him. He was able to score 17 points and pull down 6 rebounds in just 18 minutes of game time. Majok entered the game with 5 minutes left in the first quarter and was able to immediately make an impact getting fouled as he was going up for his first shot where he was able to make both free throws from the line. He was then able to score 2 more points and pull down an offensive rebound to finish off the quarter. Majok was able to continue the scoring efforts to start the second quarter with a turnaround jump shot for another 2 points and did the same thing again a few possessions later.
Majok came back into the game at a similar time in the 3rd as he did in the first and had the same impact providing a nightmare for the defensive he was fouled early and made both free throws at the line. He was able to knock down a three ball a couple of possessions later and finished off the quarter by hitting another free throw. Finishing the game with 3 more free throws and providing much needed rebounding to finish the game. Majok proved the nightmare he would be this game by working his defenders down in the post when he had the size mismatch and then bringing slower defenders out to the perimeter.
Majok continued his run of form into the round 8 match up against Brisbane, in what would turn out to be a close loss where we saw less scoring out of some of our regulars Majok was able to stand up and be our second highest scorer of the night with another 17-point game. Majok entered the game and provided an immediate impact getting a block at one end before being an option down the other end with back-to-back dunks. He was able to get to the line and score another 2 free throws having 6 of the JackJumpers 21 points at the first break.
Majok continued the Dunk party during the second getting another set of back-to-back dunks, before hitting a 3 to bring his second quarter scoring efforts to 7 points and being the player to really be keeping the JackJumpers in the contest. Majok was able to come back into the game in the last quarter after a timeout and score another 4 points in the last minute of the game.
Majok Deng’s game against South-East Melbourne on Christmas Day was a notable game for all the wrong reasons, after coming on and providing an early block Majok came down on his ankle contesting another shot. This ankle injury would rule Majok out of the rest of the regular season and be the start of some cracks appearing in the JackJumpers who had been in red hot form up until this part of the year.
Majok Deng During the Finals
Majok came back in a huge way against Perth in game 2 of the Playoff Series scoring 18 points in 16 minutes while also pulling down 5 rebounds and 2 assists. The injection of Majok was a big mix to the game plan after having only played 6 minutes the previous game.
Majok was subbed into the game with 2 minutes left in the first quarter and hitting a 3 pointer to finish off the quarter. Majok came out in the second quarter and got fouled while hitting a jump shot and went to the line the convert the free throw. Majok hit another 3 pointers in the quarter before getting subbed out. Majok played limited minutes in the third quarter scoring another 2 pointer where he got fouled and converted once again from the line. Majok scored another 6 points in the final term to secure the 8-point victory.
Game 3 of the Championship Series Majok came out in the 4th quarter and provided one of the standout performances of the whole series scoring 15 points. Majok opened the quarter by hitting a 3 pointer in the first 10 seconds, then scored another one a couple of possessions later. With the defensive starting to close out a bit harder Majok was able to pump fake the then beat the opposition off the drive with a monstrous dunk. Before getting an offensive rebound and getting fouled hitting both from the line, bringing the score level. Majok got fouled on another layup making the shot for the extra point and had another layup getting another offensive rebound off his own miss. Majok was able to keep us in the game trading lead changes multiple times through the quarter before Jack McVeigh was able to hit is game winning half-court shot.
