State of play

The Tasmania JackJumpers are back on the road this Saturday, taking on Melbourne United at John Cain Arena in the final Bass Strait Battle in what will be another tough back-to-back challenge. With the season series sitting at 2-1 in Tasmania’s favour, the JackJumpers will be looking to extend their edge against the second-placed team on the ladder.

Melbourne United boasts serious firepower, with Chris Goulding (19.4 ppg) continuing to be one of the league’s most dangerous scorers and Jack White averaging 19.3 points per game over his last three outings. Containing Goulding will be crucial, as his ability to heat up quickly can shift the game in an instant.

With Majok Deng back in the squad and Nick Stoddard in strong form, the JackJumpers will lean on their depth and embrace a next-man-up mentality. As the playoff race tightens, every moment counts—can Tasmania step up and deliver another big performance on the road?

Last Time They Met

Round 13 – Melbourne United, Monday 23 December, 7:30pm MyState Bank Arena

The JackJumpers displayed their trademark resilience in a hard-fought 97-91 victory over Melbourne United at John Cain Arena, securing their sixth consecutive win. Tasmania came out firing, putting up a dominant 36-point first quarter, with captain Clint Steindl knocking down three quick triples to help establish an early lead.

Melbourne United responded in the second quarter, using their size advantage to dominate the boards and create second-chance opportunities. They finished the game with 22 offensive rebounds, but their struggles from beyond the arc (10/32) and at the free-throw line (11/20) limited their ability to fully capitalize.

As the game tightened in the second half, the JackJumpers relied on contributions from across the roster. Reuben Te Rangi delivered a season-best 15 points, while Milton Doyle and Majok Deng made key plays on both ends of the floor. Jordon Crawford stepped up in the final period, scoring 12 of his 16 points in the fourth quarter to steady the team and keep United at bay.

Chris Goulding (18 points) and Marcus Lee (14 points, seven rebounds) led the charge for Melbourne, but Tasmania’s composure and defensive discipline in crunch time secured the win.
