Tasmania JackJumpers Bounce Back with Defensive Masterclass to Stun League-Leading Breakers
The Tasmania JackJumpers returned to form in impressive style on Saturday night at MyState Bank Arena, securing an 83-64 victory over the league-leading New Zealand Breakers and ending their recent three-game skid.
After New Zealand’s strong start, building a 17-7 lead, the JackJumpers rallied in the second quarter, outscoring the Breakers 25-14 to go into halftime with the lead. Head Coach Scott Roth praised the team’s resilience, saying, “Our guys stepped up when it mattered most. The energy and intensity they brought after the first quarter showed their commitment to bouncing back.”
The third quarter saw the JackJumpers take command, using their trademark defensive intensity to hold the Breakers to just three points on 1/15 shooting and forcing eight turnovers. Roth highlighted this pivotal stretch, noting, “We took it to another level defensively... that third quarter was a statement. Our guys understood the importance of every possession and executed with real tenacity.” This effort extended their lead to 64-44, setting them up for a well-earned win.
Craig Sword led the way with a season-high 18 points, making 6 of 7 shots, including two three-pointers. Majok Deng added a valuable 18 points and six rebounds, while Jordon Crawford contributed 19 points and four assists. Captain Clint Steindl hit three of five from beyond the arc, finishing with nine points. Milton Doyle showed his playmaking strength with five assists, adding to the depth and versatility of the team.
The JackJumpers will look to build on this momentum in their upcoming home game on Friday against the Brisbane Bullets.
